Foldershare is cool!

Here's another cool tool that I've been using lately that has simplified a lot of what I do.

FolderShare from FolderShare.com is a way to share files between machines.
Think of it as a virtual shared hard drive or better yet, hard drive replication, because that's what it is.
Download it, set it up, point it to a folder on your local hard drive. Then, on another machine, do the same thing and you've got both machines syncing the contents of the folders. The files are actually stored on both machines and kept up to date on both. In the case of conflicts, ie. both files change simultaneously, FolderShare saves the file with the conflict to a different name, later you can resolve the conflict. In practice, this has rarely happened for me.

I use it for sharing my favorites between all my machines. Now, my favorites look the same on my work, home, family and laptop machines. I also share documents I'm working on. For example, when I'm writing an article, I have my laptop and home machine synced so that anytime I edit the article on either machine, the other machine gets the edits.
Saaaaaaaaaaweet!

Finally, the beauty of it is, it just works. It's rock solid. I've never had a problem with it crashing, no odd behavior or lost files. It just works. Accidentally shut down the machine during a sync, that's OK, restart and the service starts where it terminated. Large files? No problem, FolderShare can handle it. The service is simple and directed. That's refreshing for a free utility in this age when software is written to practically brush your teeth, yet in reality it will only do the left side on a good day. :)

I've actually enrolled and pay a few bucks a month for the full service. The free download only supports sharing 2 or 3 folders. The paid service is virtually unlimited transfers and a bunch of folders. See the webpage for more information.

Disclaimer: I don't own shares, interest or have any fiduciary relationship with FolderShare other than being a customer. I just think it's a great service.
