Installing the June CTP
I've had the June CTP since TechEd and I finally decided to get the install going. I have a separate server that I run VPC on to house my various beta versions that I test. Either I am now used to the install process or the install process is better. The install is STILL very slow on the VPC. I started installing it yesterday afternoon while working on another project. I kept checking back to answer the dialogs to keep the process moving. This morning about 5:30, I got to the point where the various components start copying items and such. It is now almost 10am and the process is still going on. I attribute most of the lack of speed to the VPC configuration. I read Roman's tip here on sqljunkies about how to tune your VPC for speed, but I don't have all of those luxuries available for testing purposes at this time. Still, the process is smoother than the first betas that I installed. If you can get access to the resource kit for the June CTP, I'd recommend it too. There are some cool webcasts, videos, whitepapers, etc on that DVD as well. I watched one video from WinHec that was repeating during the Tuesday keynote where a failover occurs from a 32-bit system to a 64-bit system and the 64-bit takes it on easily as it was already processing a big load already.
